NEW IDEAS

NEW IDEAS IN MEDALLIC SCULPTURE began as a Medialia ... Rack and Hamper Gallery event in 1998, and has continued to grow in the years since. After several years of teaching a class in stone carving at The University of the Arts, Philadelphia, Mashiko created this annual traveling exhibition series to encourage students to become professionally involved with art.
In its current stage, the collaborative exhibition, NEW IDEAS IN MEDALLIC SCULPTURE, is supported by a combination of various participating universities from around the world, individual patrons, and the nonprofit organization, New Approach, Inc. NEW IDEAS is one of several New Approach projects that encourages young generations to express ideas in medallic sculpture. Exhibitions comprising young medallic sculptors has been an essential part of Medialia Gallery's philosophy from its beginning.
